This role is ideal for a highly detail-oriented accounting professional with strong real estate experience, advanced financial reporting skills, and hands-on expertise with Yardi. You will serve as a key contributor to the accounting team while supporting leadership and mentoring junior staff.

Job Summary
As a Senior Real Estate Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the full-cycle accounting process for a portfolio of properties. You will lead month-end close processes, prepare and review financial statements, perform detailed reconciliations, and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
You will work closely with the Controller while partnering cross-functionally with asset management and property operations teams. This role requires a high level of accuracy, analytical thinking, and the ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies at both the macro and granular levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of multifamily and/or commercial real estate assets.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and supporting schedules.
- Produce and analyze monthly financial statements, including variance analysis against budget and prior periods.
- Perform and review bank reconciliations, cash activity, and general ledger reconciliations with a strong focus on accuracy and detail.
- Monitor property-level financial performance and proactively identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies and procedures.
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation.
- Utilize Yardi property management software for accounting, reporting, and data analysis.
- Collaborate with property management and asset management teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and reviewing the work of property accountants and junior staff.
- Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Qualifications & Skills
- 4–6+ years of real estate or property management accounting experience required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and property-level accounting principles.
- Advanced experience with Yardi property management software required.
- Proven ability to prepare and review financial statements and manage month-end close processes.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and reconcile complex financial data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience mentoring or reviewing junior staff.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Prior experience as a Senior Accountant, Property Accountant, or similar role required.
- Experience with multifamily or commercial real estate portfolios strongly preferred.
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus.
